Snowpocalypse 2010 February 8, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sophia Parkwood @ 12:27 pm

Have you heard about the snow storm that paralyzed the mid-Atlantic over the weekend? Yours truly has been stuck right in the middle of it since late Friday. The storm has been called many things: Super Snow 2010, in honor of the Super Bowl. Snowmageddon 2010. And my personal favorite Snowpocalypse 2010.We literally have no where left to put the snow and there is more coming on Tuesday afternoon. Five to ten more inches to be exact! The yard in front of my townhouse is a six foot tall wall of snow and as I type this one of my neighbors is cleaning off his car and adding to it. L was playing in the snow yesterday while we shoveled and JD and I had to keep checking on him to make sure he didn’t get lost in the mounds. At one point we turn around to see him standing just behind the top of the wall leaning against the middle branches of the tree in our yard. So instead of getting a lot of writing done this week I will be entertaining my kiddos. There is no school for the foreseeable future, the buses can’t get to half the kids because their streets are impassable. I’m including a few pictures of the snow from early Saturday morning. At that point we only had about 23 inches, definitely a pain but also kind of pretty. We ended up getting over 30 inches of snow in this storm, more snow that we got in the previous three winters combined. If anyone has an extra snow shovel lying around, please send it my way!

Best,

Sophia

Happy Monday Morning! It’s February and it’s freaking cold. Not to worry, this week’s helping of man candy is sure to keep you warm. ;) This month may be short and cold, but it’s not a total loss.We have the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day, and Mardi Gras. Those are more than enough to keep me occupied and not thinking about the fact that winter is still here. I’m still plugging away at LRH and I even did some work on Fated this past weekend. My goal to have LRH finished by the end of this month is still attainable. I fell short on the word count in January but I can make up for it! What are your goals for this month? Keep warm, everyone!

Best,

Sophia

Music always help me brainstorm and get into the mood to write. For each new story I write I usually have a specific set of songs that remind me of my characters and their story. The music also helps drown out the noise my two little demons make! Do you like to listen to music while you write or do you need complete silence?

Something magic this way comes…

Wicked ³, Book 1

When the Abbotts need her human perspective to solve a mystery, she doesn’t hesitate. Especially since it means getting everything she ever wanted. A chance to be one of them, to have magic, even if it’s only temporary.

Someone is attacking young women at Triune, a ritual that helps Magians find their perfect threesome—the match that will complete their magic and their hearts. Callie expected to be dazzled by her first glimpse into the Magian world, but the bone-melting desire between her and the Abbott brothers isn’t part of the plan.

Nor is the decades-old secret that makes her the target of a killer…

Tantalize Me Tuesday January 19, 2010

Filed under: Tantalize Me Tuesday, Works in Progress — Sophia Parkwood @ 9:22 am

Yesterday was a holiday at school so both kids were home and the weather was blessedly beautiful. We spent literally the entire day outside playing. So, obviously I forgot to post some man candy motivation. Instead this week you get to be tantalized with both a picture and a few lines from Fated for Passion (my paranormal wip.)  The following is a short conversation between my hero Reilly and my heroine Kierra:

“I guess that explains the dreams I’ve been having.”

She turned around slowly and regarded him with a cautious look. “What kind of dreams, Reilly?”

“Dreams about you. And me. Together.” On the last word, her eyes flashed that brilliant silver color again. “Have you had any dreams about me?”

“No.”

She answered too quickly to be telling the truth. The heavy breaths that drew the swell of her breasts up to the neckline of her tank top were a dead giveaway as well. His mind flashed to an image from his dreams where his hands surrounded the twin peaks of flesh, plumping and readying them for his hungry mouth. He was hard in an instant. He was out of his chair even faster.

She tried to evade him but only managed to pin herself into the corner of the granite counter. He boxed her in with his body. He placed his hands on either side of her hips and she was so hot to the touch he thought the smoke alarm would sound. He leaned in close and the scent that was only Kierra filled his head. “You’re lying. Do you know what I do to people that are dishonest with me?” Her head moved the tiniest bit from side to side, her long dark hair catching on his stubble covered cheek. “I punish them.”

Well, I hope that leaves you thoroughly tantalized! Have a great week!

Best,

Sophia

Happy Monday! Can you believe we are already eleven days into the new year? I have been hard at work this past week on Long Road Home. I am 3500 words into it and know more about cattle ranching than I ever thought I would. Things are definitely moving along nicely! I can’t wait to write even more this week. So what’s on your agenda this week? Besides writing, I am getting back into my work out routine. I have taken pretty much all of winter off but it’s time to get started again. If only I could figure out how to type on the laptop while I’m on the elliptical live would be perfect! Enjoy this week’s man candy. If you’re like me the only kind of sweets you can have are of the calorie free variety and he fits right in! Have a great week!

Best,

Sophia

It was a dark and scary day… January 8, 2010

Filed under: Life, Ramblings, Writer's Life — Sophia Parkwood @ 9:03 am

Okay, so I’ve always known that I have trouble functioning on a daily basis without the internet. Really not a big surprise to me. I have had a few days here and there when we’ve been on vacation and the hotel we were staying in wanted an arm and a leg for 24 hours of service and I had to go without. I planned ahead and I lived through it with only the occasional shakes and headaches. But Wednesday, well things got a little scary. JD was post call and fighting the need to sleep so around 9 am he started puttering around with our wireless router. You know the beautiful little black box with lights that supplies my laptop with internet? Well see, JD’s miffed because he can’t get the router to recognize the printer. This means we aren’t able to print from the laptop to the printer upstairs in his office. On Wednesday he’d had enough. There was a burning desire deep within him to sit on the couch, while watching Sports Center, and print something, anything. It was time, he and he alone had decided, to make the damn thing work!

So there I was, with my eReader, being a good wife by letting hubby use my laptop, completely unaware of the impending doom that was about to descend upon my home. What, a little too dramatic? I think not. All at once from my place on the love seat I heard a string of curses from my dear JD’s otherwise virginal mouth. *Snort* (He’s in the Army, swear words are required adjectives.) When I inquired as to what was wrong, he informed me that not only was the printer still not recognized, he had somehow deleted the internet connection.

This is where I started to panic and that hysterical state stayed with me until 3:07 pm when said connection was finally reinstated. I endured six dark and scary hours with no internet. No way to check Facebook and see how my friends were spending the day. No way to log on to Twitter and see if Victoria Dahl was still sick and if so what marathon she was currently watching on television. No way to be in Diva Chat or haunt the Forum reading posts. No email. And when I wanted to recheck the grocery store ad online so I would be prepared at the store I was SOL. JD kindly offered to let me check it out on his Blackberry. Have you seen one of those screens? I swear my eyesight got worse in less than five minutes!

So yes, I am a little addicted to the internet. Some days I take for granted how incredible it truly is. I really can’t remember how I used to do things before but I am sure it was not as fun or efficient. How about you, are you as addicted to your technology as me? What if you had to go without for one day, completely unexpectedly? Would you survive?

My house on Wednesday.

Best,

Sophia
